Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, philanthropist and businessman, died Saratoga Springs NY 13 December, aged 93. Product of two of America's most prominent families, he was the son of Gertrude Vanderbilt, daughter of the railroad baron Cornelius Vanderbilt, and Harry Payne Whitney, heir to a tobacco and oil fortune. Founder of Pan American Airways, he financed the development of Technicolor and Cinerama and was co-producer of several David O. Selznick films including Gone With The Wind.
