Glendon Swarthout, writer, died Scottsdale Arizona 23 September, aged 74. Author of mysteries, westerns, romances, children's books, and filmscripts. His best known novel was Bless the Beasts and Children, published in 1970, which sold over two million copies. Films based on his books include Where the Boys Are, The Shootist and They Came to Cordura. Awarded an O. Henry Prize in 1960.
