Gret Palucca, dancer and teacher, died Dresden 22 March, aged 91. One of Germany's best-known modern dancers and dance teachers, she started winning international acclaim as a solo dancer in 1924. Her dance school, the Palucca School, in Dresden was later closed by the Nazis, and although she was allowed to dance, reviews of her performances were banned. Nationalised in 1949 by East Germany's Communist regime, the school re-opened and continued to produce the country's leading dancers under her supervision.
