Obituary: Ken Wheldon

Ken Wheldon, football administrator, died 1 May, aged 68. Former scrap metal merchant who relinquished his interest in Walsall and bought Birmingham City for 25p in return for taking on liabilities of pounds 3m. When he sold up in 1989, against a backdrop of poor results on the pitch and fans' demonstrations, he had reduced the figure to pounds 500,000.
