Leon Theremin, scientist and musician, died 3 November, aged 97. Pioneer in the development of electronic music and inventor of an electronic musical instrument, the 'theremin', an early form of synthesiser which he first demonstrated to Albert Einstein in the 1920s. It was used on the Beach Boys' song 'Good Vibrations' (1966). He later invented an electronic listening device for the KGB.
