Peter Blume, artist, died New Milford Connecticut 30 November, aged 86. A Russian immigrant, he became one the most celebrated artists in the US in the Thirties and Forties. First received recognition when his painting South of Scranton won first prize at the Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh in 1934. Particulary drawn to epic and humanist themes, he showed a more Surrealist style in his later works.
