Pierre Holmes, died L'Isle-sur-la- Sorgue, France, 7 December, aged 81. During the Second World War he broadcast messages on the BBC to the French resistance: between 1942 and 1944 he had a daily 15-minute programme reading out coded messages for groups on parachute drops of arms and troops.
