Obituary: Robert E. Lee
Robert E. Lee, playwright, died Los Angeles 8 July, aged 75. Co- author, with Jerome Lawrence, of the play Inherit the Wind, based on the 'monkey' trial of John Scopes in 1925 for teaching evolution instead of the biblical theory of creation; the book of the play sold some 2.5 million copies. The two also co-wrote Auntie Mame, which was filmed and made into a musical.
