Vladimir Alexandrovich Tikhonov, economist, died 2 March, aged 66. Pro-reform member of President Boris Yeltsin's advisory council.

Jacques Doucet, artist, died Paris 11 March, aged 69. A friend of the Surrealists, he became a member of the Expressionist group 'Cobra' (an acronym for Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam).
