Phil Rudd: ACDC drummer pleads guilty to threatening to kill man and his daughter

The musician also pleaded guilty to being in possession of drugs

Phil Rudd, the former drummer of AC/DC, has pleaded guilty to threatening to kill an associate and his daughter, as well as to possession of drugs.

The musician, 60, initially entered a plea of not guilty when he was charged by police in New Zealand for the offense in December 2014.

He also pleaded to being not guilty of carrying illicit substances methamphetamine and cannabis.

But on Tuesday 21 April, he changed his plea, admitting to all three charges ahead of the start of his trial at Tauranga district court.

Rudd now faces a maximum jail sentence of seven years for the death threats. He faces a further three months for possession of cannabis and six months for possession of methamphetamine.

Speaking to press, Rudd’s lawyer, Craig Tuck, said that the threat to kill claims “essentially revolved around an angry phone call - that was it”.

Rudd has been released on bail until 26 June.
