'People think I'm a one-trick pony because I was in a soap'

A my Nuttall, 25, is best known to television viewers for her five-year stint as Chloe Atkinson in the ITV soap 'Emmerdale'. After leaving the show in 2005 she went on stage in 'Boeing Boeing' and 'Guys and Dolls'. She can currently be seen playing Sally Bowles in the Lyric Theatre's production of 'Cabaret'

If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be...

Eating my beef lasagne, putting on my make-up and starting to warm up. We pretty much just relax during the day before the shows in the evening.

The most surprising thing that happened to me was...

Lately, it has been landing this role in Cabaret. I'm not a negative person but every role I go for I don't think I'll get. I've done four shows back to back now and Cabaret is different in every way. My last show, Boeing Boeing, was a comedy, but this is very dark and serious. It's also a challenge for me, as a soprano, to sing the belting songs.

A common misperception of me is...

That I'm a one-trick pony because I was in a soap. People are shocked when I tell them I'm doing stuff like Cabaret because I was in Emmerdale – some don't expect me to be able to do more than one thing.

I wish people would take more notice of...

Me!

A phrase I use far too often is...

"Oh my God" and "it's amazing". My dad likes to take the mickey out of me for saying everything is "amazing".

Hopefully what I do. Otherwise, I am good at being a loving daughter and girlfriend.

Remembering friends' birthdays. They don't get annoyed, they just bring it up casually a month later.

The ideal night out is...

It's been so long since I've had a free evening thatI can't remember! How about an evening in an Italian restaurant with my boyfriend – in fact, just a night without work would be nice.

In moments of weakness I...

Go to Starbucks and have a cheese panini and a latte. I shouldn't really because dairy can affect your singing, but some days you just have to have what you want.

In another life I'd have been...

What I'm doing is what I've always wanted to do. When I was younger I used to want to own a sweet shop so I could eat sweets all day, but that dream died a long time ago.

The best age to be is...

25. It's always best to be in the moment

My philosophy is this:

Live every day as if it's your last, always pursue your dreams and have no regrets.
