Google has welcomed the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s daughter with a special message on its UK homepage.

It reads: “It’s a girl! Welcome to the world, your Royal Highness,” with a link to the search engine’s results for “royal baby”.

The child was delivered shortly after 8.30am on Saturday at Queen Mary’s Hospital in London and she and her mother are said to be doing well.

Prince William was present for the birth and the crowds of well-wishers outside cheered and clapped as the news was announced.

The little princess has not yet been named but the current bookmakers’ favourites are Charlotte and Alice.

Her birth is being marked across the country, including with a message on the BT Tower and pink lights on Westminster landmarks later tonight.

Royal Mail is putting a special postmark on millions of letters and parcels being delivered after the bank holiday, reading: “Congratulations TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their daughter”.
