The Duke of Edinburgh attends a dinner, held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Marshall Plan, at the National Building Museum, Washington DC. The Prince of Wales visits Middlesbrough Football Club's Riverside Stadium, Hall Garth School and the Teesside Hospice Care Foundation, Middlesbrough, Cleveland; visits the Hartlepool Civic Centre, Hartlepool Art Gallery and Hartlepool Marina, Hartlepool, Cleveland, and tours HMS Trincomalee; and attends a concert in Ripon Cathedral, Ripon, North Yorkshire. The Princess Royal, Patron, the Basic Skills Agency, presents the Secondary Schools Quality Mark Presentation at Buckingham Palace; as Patron, the Development Trust (for the Mentally Handicapped), attends a reception to mark the 10th anniversary of the trust at Buckingham Palace; as Patron, National Association of Victims Support Schemes, chairs the 15th meeting of the Advisory Board, Church House, London SW1; as Patron, the Basic Skills Agency, presents the Secondary Schools Quality Mark Presentation at Buckingham Palace; and, as President, Save the Children Fund, attends the Children in Cities Gala Dinner at Guildhall, London EC2. Princess Margaret names the new lifeboat at St Peter Port Harbour, Guernsey; and, as President, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, opens the society's new centre in St Peter Port, Guernsey, and attends a reception for committee members and supporters. The Duke of Gloucester opens new technology buildings at Carr Hill High School, Kirkham, Lancashire; as Grand Prior, the Order of St John, opens the refurbished County Headquarters at Fulwood, Preston, Lancashire; opens the Lancashire and Lakeland Radiotherapy Unit at the Royal Preston Hospital; and opens Eaves Brook Housing Association development at Deepdale, Lancashire. Changing of the Guard

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Welsh Guards.
