Popular YouTuber PewDiePie has claimed Twitter unverified his account after he joked he and fellow YouTuber Jacksepticeye had “joined Isis”.

The social media star, who has amassed over 47.6 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, also retweeted a tweet from a parody news account called @SkyNeiws which claimed PewDiePie had his account unverified due to “suspected relations with Isis”.

“Me and @Jack_Septic_Eye have joined isis. Which is why we both got unverified,” PewDiePie joked on Twitter.

Jacksepticeye responded by joking: “@pewdiepie I said NAZIS!! Not ISIS! God dammit Felix….”, to which PewDiePie responded by saying: "Oh s***".

The majority of users saw the funny side of PewDiePie’s comments about Isis. One user wrote: “Fans and YouTubers we all support you @pewdiepie because we know you would never join terrorist like isis. #TwitterVerifyPewDiePieAgain”.

:“Oh my god you actually got unverified. You have the balls I lack apparently”, added another.

Nevertheless, some were less pleased and argued it was a sensitive issue which should not be joked about.

JackSepticEye still has his blue verification tick on Twitter. Users on the social media site who have verified accounts have a small blue tick at the top of their profile while unverified users have no tick.

A representative for Twitter said they did not comment on individual cases for privacy and security reasons. A representative for PewDiePie did not immediately respond to request for comment.
