National Piers Day is part of the Year of the Pier, a campaign run by the National Piers Society and The Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions, to save Britain's remaining 50 seaside piers (there used to be 100) and to promote their historical and cultural relevance today. The objective is to attract more visitors to Britain's piers through special events and to lobby for more funding.
