A policeman was jailed for five years yesterday for running down a pedestrian after drinking at least seven pints of lager.
The Old Bailey was told that Peter Wallace, 28, was more than three- and-a-half times over the legal limit for driving when he lost control of his car in Peckham, south London, on 15 July. The car mounted the pavement and crushed Mary Woods, 28, against a wall. Wallace, a police officer for six years who was stationed at Gatwick, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.
