pounds 600,000 for road victim

A woman who lost her chance of marriage and motherhood in a road accident was yesterday awarded pounds 600,000 agreed High Court damages,

Yvette Dixon, a clerk was engaged, newly pregnant, and looking forward to her 21st birthday when she walked into the path of a car while crossing the A5096 at Enderby, Leicestershire in March 1985. She suffered brain injuries and was in hospital for eight months, during which she had a termination. After being discharged she needed 24-hour care.

Her counsel, Ian Karsten QC told Mr Justice Buckley it was agreed Ms Dixon was 50 per cent to blame for the accident. The judge approved the award, by consent, against motorist Marion Lofthouse, of Coltbeck Avenue, Narborough, Leics.

He expressed admiration for Ms Dixon and her parents, who retired to care for her. He hoped the damages would provide them with some well-earned help.
