Battersea power station in London will be turned into "the world's greatest entertainment and retail complex" under a pounds 500m plan announced yesterday.

The developer, Parkview, intends the first phase to be ready by the millennium. The plans include a ride that will shoot visitors up through one of the famous four chimneys of the listed landmark, spin them round and return them to earth.
