Protesters win eviction battle
A COURT threw out a council's bid to evict peace campers from their site next to a nuclear submarine base. Sheriff James Fraser, sitting at Dumbarton Sheriff Court, ruled that the eviction notice served on the Faslane protesters by Argyll and Bute Council was "incompetent" and dismissed the case.
"However late it (the objection) was taken it is clearly well-founded, upheld and the action is dismissed," he said. The decision hinged on the description on the eviction summons which identified the campaigners as an "unincorporated body of persons" and specified no individual names.
