Rabbatts resigns pounds 125,000 council job

THE CHIEF executive of Lambeth council in south London has stepped down from what was once "the worst job in local government".

A spokesman for the borough confirmed yesterday that Heather Rabbatts has resigned from her pounds 125,000-a-year post. In a brief statement Ms Rabbatts, 43, said her four years at the borough had been the "high point" of an interesting and fulfilling career in the public sector. She said: "When I arrived this was considered the worst job in local government - that is no longer the case. Lambeth has turned the corner." Ms Rabbatts, a BBC governor, is expected to seek a private-sector job.

Jim Dickson, the leader of the Labour-controlled council, said: "She will be greatly missed, but our drive to improve will continue."
