BRITISH scientists predict that three tropical storms and one hurricane will strike America between June and November next year. This is the longest-range forecast for US hurricanes ever developed.

Drs Mark Saunders and Paul Rockett of University College London's Benfield Greig Hazard Research Centre used a similar statistical and historical model to predict that this year's US hurricane season would be unusually severe.
