THOSE WHO sweltered on the beaches in mid-September called it an Indian summer. They were not far wrong; this September was the warmestfor 50 years.
The Met Office said last night that the month was unseasonably warm, with Gravesend, Kent, topping the temperature league with 30C (86F). The mild weather was ascribed to warmer sea temperatures.
