NOVEMBER'S HIGHEST reading for atmospheric pressure in the UK was recorded yesterday. The pressure - effectively the weight of the air above the earth - reached its highest level since recordings began in the late 1900s, the Met Office said.

Two readings of 1046.7 millibars were recorded in Eskdalemuir and Aviemore, both in Scotland. the previous record for November was 1046.5 millibars in 1980.
