UNCHECKED DEVELOPMENT is as much to blame for the recent wildfire damage in Florida as hot, dry weather, according to officials.
Homes have been built in forests and developments have gone up without hydrants.
Last week, as a bone-dry Florida struggled with a second consecutive season of intense wildfires, 50 houses burnt to the ground in Port St Lucie. Wildfires have burnt 230,000 acres this year.
