AT LEAST three people were injured when a strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 shook a southern Philippine province, officials said yesterday.

A three-story commercial building, a small cinema, a school, stores and a funeral home were among the structures destroyed. The Philippines is known as the Pacific "Ring of Fire" because earthquakes and volcanic eruptions frequently occur there.
