GREECE ANNOUNCED an emergency civil defence plan yesterday to deal with a week-long heat wave, which could see temperatures reaching 42C in Athens.
Hospitals and emergency services have been placed on alert in preparation for a big rise in heat-related ailments. Air-conditioned auditoriums and public buildings will open today in main cities to provide refuge for people suffering from the heat.
