IN PUERTO Rico and the Virgin Islands, south of the centre of Hurricane Floyd, meteorologists warned there could be heavy flooding.
The government in the British island of Anguilla closed schools and residents put up hurricane shutters. "The people are taking this thing serious," said a shopkeeper. "They are buying mostly dry foods and batteries, which are absolutely essential during a hurricane."
