FLOODS CAUSED by Hurricane Floyd in the US state of North Carolina have claimed the lives of at least 34 people, with others still missing.
Some 1,500 people remained stranded by the high water, with more flood warnings issued as the state's coastal plain was inundated with 20in of rain over the weekend. So far more than 1,000 people have been rescued from rooftops by helicopters and boats.
