FREEZING WEATHER and snowstorms blocked off major roads in Southwest France during the weekend stranding hundreds of truck drivers.

Up to a thousand motorists and lorry drivers in the Drome region had to be taken to makeshift lodgings or service stations on Saturday night after the A7 motorway was closed. The cold snap left up to one foot of snow in some Southern coastal regions.
