BRITAIN GOT its own taste of hurricane-force winds yesterday as large swathes of the country were battered by winds of up to 80mph.

The winds hit western areas from Anglesey up to Cumbria. Anglesey and the Isle of Man were the worst hit, with winds reaching 80mph and 70mph respectively. Severe gale warnings were in force over much of north-west England last night.
