TORRENTIAL RAIN which has pounded Sumatra for the past few days has been blamed for a mudslide which engulfed a city suburb on the island burying up to 50 people.
Police said at least nine people had died and the final death toll was likely to be higher. The landslide happened on Thursday morning in a suburb of the city of Padang, some 575 miles north-west of Jakarta.
