Youths attacked Santa Claus and his helpers during a visit to an estate in Wigan, Greater Manchester. Volunteers from Newton Rotary Club were parading their Christmas charity float through the estate when they were met by a group of foul-mouthed egg-hurling youths. The float was forced to finish its tour early, leaving dozens of youngsters disappointed. John Kilshaw, the organiser, said: "Not only do eggs hurt when they hit people, but they leave a terrible mess and everybody ended up having to have their clothes cleaned."
