iPod 30Gb £219 (60Gb, £299)

It's not called the iPod Video. But this new model of the portable jukebox has video capabilities; you can screen Pixar cartoons and pop videos on the 2.5in screen. It is replacing the older models, which are being sold off cheaply. The new one comes in two capacities, enough for 75 hours or 150 hours of video. And, of course, it stores music and photos.

Fujifilm Z1 £229.99

Now the clocks have gone back, the available light for taking photographs is rarer and bleaker. You need a camera that's particularly good in low light - such as this one. The camera won't need to use the flash as much, so you'll produce more natural-looking pictures. It has a sleek and chic metallic finish, and is available in black or silver.

ViaMichelin X930 satellite navigation unit £269

The X930 is one of the slimmest but most powerful satellite navigation models available. The central chip and software mean it finds the signal very quickly and shows everything clearly on its 3.5in touch-sensitive screen. Because it's made by Michelin, it has access to content from the Michelin guides, so there are plenty of points of interest to choose from.

Sony AIBO £1,500

Remember, remember, to keep pets indoors on 5 November. Unless you opt for a robot pet such as the AIBO. The latest model, the ERS7-M3, comes in a champagne finish with striped ears. He has a camera in his nose that can be used to take snaps or as a webcam. So you could check in with him to see that the house is safe while you're setting off rockets. And he can dance.

Epson TWD1 projector and DVD player £899

The TWD1 is a complete - and portable - home entertainment system. It has a DVD player, built-in stereo speakers and a high-quality projector, which is easily set up and projects a 60in image on to the wall. Any plain wall will do. Projectors work best in darkened rooms, so winter is perfect.

Intempo RS-01 DAB radio £89.99

This latest DAB radio from Intempo has just been launched, timed to arrive as the clocks went back. That's because it has an integrated large-display alarm clock to get you up on drab, dark mornings. If you can't face being woken up by any of the many digital radio stations, there's also a CD player. If you're out of DAB range, there's an FM tuner, too.

Philips 32PF9830 TV with Ambilight 2

This 32in high-definition-ready model projects coloured light on to the wall behind the TV. The light's colour changes with the image on screen. It makes the screen seem larger and the picture warmer.

Serene phone £650

This phone, about to hit the shops, is set to be the most enviable handset around - designed by Bang & Olufsen in conjunction with Samsung. It has an unusual design: you let the motorised lid swing open so that the display is in the palm of your hand and dial the number with your thumb. It's tricky at first, but worth it for the jealous looks.

Nintendo Game Boy Micro £69.99

If you must go out, carry something to take your mind off winter. The latest console from Nintendo has a bright, clear screen which shows off the games to spectacular effect. It's tiny, at 4in by 2in by 1in, and is designed to take Game Boy Advance cartridges.

Chocolate Fountain £89.95

For this weekend's fireworks try a chocolate fountain for an indulgent treat. Fill it up (it comes with 900g of Belgian chocolate) and turn it on. The molten happiness flows down over the tower so you can dip marshmallows or your whole hand.
