A LEADING member of South Africa's pro-apartheid Conservative Party was arrested last night in connection with the assassination of the ANC leader Chris Hani. Clive Derby-Lewis was arrested after police questioning of the murder suspect, Janusz Walus, a Polish immigrant, state television said.
Mr Derby-Lewis is a member of the 60-man council which advises President F W de Klerk.
The ANC said the arrest might be the first strand in unravelling a conspiracy to undermine democracy talks and urged the police to pursue every lead vigorously.
