SMOKERS are more than twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's disease as non-smokers, according to a study in the Netherlands of 7,000 people aged 55 of older.
The finding, detailed in the Lancet, is surprising as previous research has suggested that smoking provided some protection against dementia.
