Smoker who bit off ear jailed

An "obnoxious and loud-mouthed" train passenger who bit off a fellow commuter's ear after he was asked to stop smoking in a non-smoking carriage was jailed for three years yesterday.

Snaresbrook Crown Court was told Peter Corti, 27, Basildon, Essex, carried out the attack after consuming a "lethal combination of drink and drugs". His victim. Peter Lowe, 46, a sales director, was left in considerable pain and covered in blood. The earwas retrieved from the carriage floor and sewn back on by surgeons.
