Stevie Nicks cancels all 2021 performances over Covid-19 fears: ‘My primary goal is to keep healthy’

Stevie Nicks has cancelled appearances at five music festivals, citing coronavirus concerns

Stevie Nicks has cancelled all her live performances for 2021 over fears due to Covid-19.

The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman had been scheduled to play five gigs in the coming months in the US.

However, in a statement shared on Twitter on Tuesday (10 August), Nicks wrote that she was “concerned” by rising cases across the country.

“These are challenging times with challenging decisions that have to be made,” the 73-year-old wrote. “I want everyone to be safe and healthy and the rising Covid cases should be of concern to all of us.

“While I’m vaccinated, at my age, I am still being extremely cautious and for that reason have decided to skip the 5 performances I had planned for 2021.”

She continued: “Because singing and performing have been my whole life, my primary goal is to keep healthy so I can continue singing for the next decade or longer. I’m devastated and I know the fans are disappointed, but we will look towards a brighter 2022.”

Most of the festivals are moving forward with replacement headliners, such as country musician Chris Stapleton.

There is growing concern across the US regarding another wave of Covid-19, largely stemming from the Delta variant.

Particular worry is rising around the impact of the new strain on children, with an average of 216 children hospitalised last week across the US, according to data from the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
