Taylor Swift announces re-recorded Fearless album including six unheard tracks

Artist has been working on re-recorded versions of her albums since last year

Taylor Swift has announced that she is releasing the first of her newly re-recorded songs tonight (Thursday 10 February), and that a new version of her second album Fearless is on the way.

The Folklore artist has been creating new versions of the albums released with her old label Big Machine Records, after a row with the label’s new owner Scooter Braun over the rights to her masters.

“I’m thrilled to tell you that my new version ofFearless (Taylor’s Version) is done and will be with you soon," Swift wrote on Instagram.

“It has 26 songs including 6 never before released songs from the vault. ‘Love Story’ (Taylor’s Version) will be out tonight.”

In November, a re-record clause in Swift’s contract with Big Machine expired, meaning she has since been free to re-perform and re-record every song from her six studio albums – including her second album Fearless and 2017’s Reputation – released with the label.

Swift confirmed her intentions to re-record last year, and then previewed the first glimpse of a new version of her hit single “Love Story” in Ryan Reynold’s advert for Match.com.

She announced the news of the “Love Story (Taylor’s version)” release on Instagram and on Good Morning America, along with the revelation that a new version of Fearless was also on the way.

The new album edition will comprise 26 songs, including six never-before-heard tracks written when Swift was aged between 16 and 18.

In a longer statement riddled with classic Swift clues about the forthcoming project, the artist explained that she was "ecstatic" to be able to share the new version with her fans.

"I've spoken a lot about why I'm remaking my first six albums, but the way I've chosen to do this will hopefuLy illuminate where I'm coming from, [sic]," she said.

"Artists should own their own work for so many reasons, but the most screamingly obvious one is that the artist is the only one who really *knows* that body of work.

"For example, only I know which songs I wrote that almost made the Fearless album, songs I absolutely adored, but were held back for different reasons."

She continued: "Those reasons seem unnecessary now. I've decIded I want you to have the whole story, see the entire vivid picture, and let you into the entire dreamscape that is my Fearless album."

Fearless marked Swift’s first Grammy win for Album of the Year, which at the time made her the the youngest-ever winner of the award.

Last year was one of her most prolific periods to date, as she released two chart-topping albums, Folklore and its sister record, Evermore.
