A teenage boy yesterday told the Old Bailey how he went to help the mortally wounded headmaster Philip Lawrence after a schoolfriend of his had stabbed him in the street.

The 16-year-old described how the headmaster's body went limp and how he saw blood on Mr Lawrence's hands as he helped him to St George's Roman Catholic School in Maida Vale, north-west London. The boy said he was certain the defendant, who is charged with Mr Lawrence's murder and cannot be named for legal reasons, was the attacker.
