Tennis: British tennis gets a champion
BRITISH tennis received a rare fillip yesterday when James Baily (above) became the first Briton for 28 years to win a boys' singles title at one of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Baily overwhelmed the New Zealander Steven Downs 6-3, 6-2 in 73 minutes to triumph in the junior Australian Open in Melbourne.
Baily, 18 today, almost gave up the game last year over his poor form. His coach, Stephen Shaw, said: 'It's a fantastic effort.'
