The United Nations terminated its seven-month mandate authorising military action in Libya yesterday. The move comes despite a plea from the new government in Tripoli to delay over concerns about the fragile security situation. MORE

Serial killer Robert Black has been convicted of his fourth child murder. The notorious Scottish paedophile was found guilty at Armagh Crown Court of kidnapping and murdering nine-year-old Jennifer Cardy in Northern Ireland 30 years ago.

Rescuers fought snow and rain yesterday as they pulled a young man alive from the rubble of a collapsed building four days after a powerful earthquake hit Turkey, killing 534 people and leaving thousands homeless.

Thatcher claims half a million pounds

The former prime minister, Lady Thatcher, has claimed more than half a million pounds of taxpayers' cash in the past five years, the Government has revealed. The 86-year-old Baroness, who is rarely seen in public and suffers ongoing health problems, benefited from the public duties cost allowance available to ex-PMs. Since 2006, she has claimed a total of £535,000 in state handouts.

Ms Klum will be attending as the “Visible Woman”, wearing an outfit designed to represent – in accurate, anatomical detail – her own inner organs. Mmm, lovely, Heidi. A Conservative MP called for a debate on happiness yesterday, while urging an end to the “unnecessary and depressing ritual” of turning the clocks back. Greg Knight said millions of people will be “less happy than they could be” following the ending of British Summer Time this weekend.

People in Britain are most happy at the age of 38, according to a new study. A poll of 2,000 adults, says the Huffington Post, revealed we’re most confident socially during our thirties. Twice as many claimed to value money rather than friends.

Sporting pink hair and tattoos across her shoulders and neck, a new-look Barbie doll is proving popular with children but unpopular with their parents. The $50 limited edition dolls were meant to be aimed at adults, the manufacturer said.

Woman issued with £28,000 parking fine

A woman in Sicily was issued with a €32,000 (£28,000) fine for parking her car illegally after a police officer charged 2,000 years of interest on the ticket by mistake. He calculated it from the year AD208, instead of 2008. When she complained, she discovered that the real fine was €102.

Johnny Hallyday heading to the UK

French superstar Johnny Hallyday, a national treasure in his home country, is to finally play his first UK concert – more than half-a-century into his career. The singer, an enduring star who has sold more than 100 million albums since launching his career in 1960, will perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall next year.
