Driver survives 80ft cliff plunge into sea

A driver survived an 80ft cliff fall after his car left the road and plunged into the sea. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and make his way to the shore following the incident at Roedean, near Brighton, which happened shortly after midnight yesterday.

Gaddafi sons go on trial for murder

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the former leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, faces trial today, accused of ordering the murder and torture of civilians during the country’s eight-month civil war in 2011. He will stand trial alongside his brother Saadi Gaddafi, former spy chief Abdullah al-Senussi, two former prime ministers and more than 30 senior officials. MORE

Man charged over murder of girl, two

A suspect has been charged with murdering a two-year-old who was found with a “number of serious injuries” in Blackpool. Police said Kasey Hambleton was found “unresponsive”. Connor Gibson, 23, is due before magistrates today. A woman, 23, also held on suspicion of murder was bailed until July.

Boy seriously hurt in fall from coach

A nine-year-old boy suffered grave injuries after falling from a coach yesterday afternoon. No one else was injured in the incident, on the A47 near King’s Lynn. A spokesman for Norfolk Police said last night: “The boy has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn with life-threatening injuries.”

A professional poker player is being sued by an Atlantic City casino after he won $9.6m (£5.7m) in an alleged card-cheating scheme. The Borgata Hotel Casino filed a federal lawsuit against Phil Ivey, who is considered one of the best players in the world.

Baby mammoth on show in London

A month-old mammoth will go on display at the Natural History Museum in London in May – the first time that it has been shown in Western Europe. It was found in Siberia by a reindeer herder in 2007, and is a little larger than a dog.

Runners from 27 countries filled the streets of North Korea’s capital for yesterday’s Pyongyang Marathon, which was opened to foreigners for the first time this year.

Cow pulled from swimming pool

Firefighters pulled a cow out of a swimming pool in Wells, Somerset, at the weekend. The cow was one of three animals rescued by the service in England yesterday.
