House prices continue to rise

House prices are continuing to rise in double digits as figures from Nationwide in May indicate average prices were up 11.1 per cent from the same time last year, as the boom continues. Yesterday the European Commission called on the UK to raise taxes and build more to combat this inflation in prices.

Sisi confirmed as president

Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was confirmed as Egypt’s next president last night, after authorities announced that he had won 96.1 per cent of last week’s presidential run-off. It is claimed that 47.5 per cent of Egypt’s 53 million eligible voters participated – a respectable turnout, if true.

28 pupils in hospital after buses collide

A 12-year-old boy and a 54-year-old bus driver suffered severe injuries yesterday when two school buses crashed head-on in Stanley, County Durham. A total of 28 children were taken to hospital when one single and one double decker bus collided at a junction.

British jihadist killed in battle is named

A British man named Abu Daigham al-Baritani has been killed during a battle in Syria, according to a statement on the Rayat al-Tawheed combatants Instagram account. It said he was killed a few nights ago, and he was said to have regularly featured in Rayat Tawheed videos.

Pakistani politician arrested in UK

Security forces in Karachi have been placed on heightened alert after police in Britain arrested a London-based Pakistani politician as part of an investigation into money laundering. Officers from the Metropolitan Police arrested Altaf Hussain at his home in London. MORE

Second death at Isle of Man TT races

A second competitor has died in the 2014 TT races on the Isle of Man, event organisers have confirmed. British Supersport champion Karl Harris, 34, was killed during the Superstock race yesterday.

British woman dies in holiday fall

A woman from Lancashire has died after falling 30ft over a wall while on holiday with her husband, on the Spanish island of Menorca. Kay Flitcroft, 30, from Blackpool was taken to hospital by air ambulance on Saturday but doctors could not save her.
