Pellegrini upset as Jose celebrates Torres’ late winner

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini (below) said he “didn’t want to” shake Jose Mourinho’s hand after the Chelsea manager celebrated Fernando Torres’s late winner in the 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

A mix-up between Joe Hart and Matija Nastasic allowed Torres to score, prompting Mourinho to run into the crowd in celebration.

AVB criticises fans after narrow win

Roberto Soldado’s late penalty earned Spurs a 1-0 win over Hull, lifting them to fourth in the table, but manager Andre Villas-Boas hinted he was not happy with his supporters. He said: “We had to dig deep because we weren’t getting any help from anybody.” MORE

Sebastian Vettel was overcome with joy after claiming his fourth straight world title. “I’m speechless,” he said after winning the Indian GP. “I can’t find the words to describe the emotions.” He was, though, fined £21,000 for his “doughnut” spins. MORE

Joy for Poyet as Sunderland win

Fabio Borini’s late goal helped Sunderland beat Newcastle 2-1, lifting them off the bottom of the table. Steven Fletcher put Sunderland ahead and, although Mathieu Debuchy levelled, substitute Borini fired home from long range, much to the delight of manager Gus Poyet.

Alonso calls for better Ferrari car

Fernando Alonso called on Ferrari to produce a better car for next season after conceding the world title to Sebastian Vettel. “It’s a day for us to start working even harder,” Alonso said. “We will start immediately and next year we want to win.” MORE

The San Francisco 49ers cruised to a 42-10 win yesterday over the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are owned by Fulham proprietor Shahid Khan. They scored six touchdowns, condemning the Jaguars to their eighth defeat this season at Wembley in the latest NFL International Series.

Bayonne sack ‘drunk’ Phillips

Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips has been sacked by his club Bayonne after being accused of turning up for training drunk. The 31-year-old was told of the French club’s decision on Saturday and is to receive confirmation by letter today.
