Arsenal hold the holders but go out

Arsenal departed the Champions League despite holding the holders Bayern Munich to a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena. Bastian Schweinsteiger’s opener was levelled by Lukas Podolski but Bayern held on to progress 3-1 on aggregate. Atletico Madrid beat Milan 5-1 on aggregate. MORE

Leicester improve promotion hopes

Leicester City moved 15 points clear of the play-off places at the top of the Championship last night after beating Barnsley 3-0 at Oakwell. Elsewhere, Derby were held at home by Bolton, QPR went down 2-0 at Brighton and Reading were 4-2 victors at Leeds United. MORE

West Indies wrapped up the Twenty20 series with England, easing to a five-wicket win in Bridgetown to go 2-0 up in the three-match series. The visitors posted 152 for 7, Jos Buttler hitting 67 and Krishmar Santokie taking 4 for 21, before the Windies romped home with seven balls to spare. MORE

Pardew hit with seven-game ban

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been banned for seven matches following his head-butt on Hull midfielder David Meyler earlier this month. The 52-year-old has accepted the Football Association charge, after also being fined £60,000. MORE

Etherington sets up medal Friday

Visually impaired skier Jade Etherington and guide Caroline Powell all but guaranteed a medal in the super combined in Sochi yesterday. The pair only need to finish Friday’s super-G segment to win a medal.
