Kompany: City’s time has come
Manchester City face Bayern Munich in the Champions League at the Allianz Arena tonight, and captain Vincent Kompany feels that winning the competition for the first time would be easier than breaking the hex to clinch their first Premier League title in 2012. “Before we won the league it was more difficult to believe we could do it than it is [now] with the Champions League,” said the 28-year-old defender.
Watson slumps to first-round defeat
British women’s No 1 Heather Watson’s resurgence came to a halt yesterday, when she was knocked out of the first round of the Korea Open, falling to American qualifier Nicole Gibbs. Watson, who recently made her way back into the world’s top 50, lost 7-5, 6-2.
Mourinho: Europe is no obsession
Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea host Schalke tonight and he insists he “does not think a lot” about being the first manager to win the Champions League with three clubs. He said: “If at the end of my career I achieved that situation, then good. But it’s far from being an obsession.”
Keeper Wiese offered stint as WWE wrestler
Former Germany goalkeeper Tim Wiese has revealed he has been offered a stint in the WWE as a wrestler.
The 32-year-old has been a free agent since January after being released from his contract at Hoffenheim. He came to the club with a big reputation and was named captain but was dropped after letting in 15 goals in four games, then picked up an injury.
“I have an official enquiry from the WWE,” Wiese told German newspaper Bild. “I will listen.
“I don’t s*** my pants. Why should I immediately say no? Wrestling is very popular, especially in the States. I will go through the enquiry with my agent next week.”
Mercedes rivals ‘like enemies’
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are “almost like... enemies” in their duel for the Formula One world title, says Mercedes chief Toto Wolff. “It has changed from an almost amicable relationship at the beginning of the season to a very intense moment,” Wolff said.
