Beth Tweddle has became the latest star of London 2012 to announce her retirement. “It’s been a hard decision,” the 28-year-old, who won bronze at last year’s games, said. “Gymnastics has been a massive part of my life. I can’t commit to the hours and training to remain at the top.” MORE

Tiger Woods remains convinced his five-year wait for a major title will end soon. “I’ve had my share of chances,” the American said ahead of the US PGA Championships, which starts tomorrow. “The key is to keep giving myself chances, and eventually I’ll start getting them.” MORE

Injury-hit Greene heads to Worlds

Rooney looks abroad as Chelsea saga drags on

Wayne Rooney is willing to contemplate a move abroad should his move to Chelsea fail to materialise Jose Mourinho’s side failed with a second bid for the England international, right, thought to be in the region of £25m, last weekend, with Rooney’s options limited.

Manager David Moyes has concerns over the possibility of Rooney joining a title contender. French side Paris Saint-Germain were also initially interested in the 27-year-old, who missed last night’s friendly in Sweden with a shoulder injury, although Laurent Blanc’s side have since moved for Napoli’s Edinson Cavani.
