Wasteful Wigan blow chance to move clear

Wigan Athletic missed the chance to move out of the relegation zone last night, twice giving up the lead as they lost 3-2 to Swansea. Roger Espinoza and James McCarthy twice put Roberto Martinez's side ahead at the DW Stadium, only for equalisers from Angel Rangel and Itay Shechter, above, and then a third from Dwight Tiendalli to leave Wigan three points adrift of safety with two games remaining.

With the FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday, Wigan enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges but were let down by some poor defending, allowing the visitors to capitalise. Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm was stretchered off late on. MORE

Ferguson future at United in doubt

The future of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was in doubt last night, with the Scot reported to be giving serious consideration to bringing his 26-year reign as manager to a close. Everton manager David Moyes has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. MORE

Dzeko strike enough for City

Edin Dzeko scored the only goal of the game as Manchester City warmed up for the FA Cup final with a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion. The Bosnian struck with 10 minutes of the first-half left at the Etihad, as both sides hit the bar in an entertaining match. MORE

Chelsea alert police over tweets

Chelsea have alerted the Metropolitan Police over further anti-Semitic abuse of Yossi Benayoun, this time on Twitter. The incident comes just weeks after the Israeli midfielder said he had been the victim of anti-Semitic taunts from his own supporters against Liverpool at Anfield.

Murray grinds out victory in Madrid

Andy Murray was given a stern test on clay before overcoming Florian Mayer 7-6 7-6 in his opening match at the Madrid Masters yesterday. The world No 26 pushed Murray hard to give the Scot some much needed practice ahead of the French Open later this month. MORE

Disgraced Zarooni decides to appeal

Mahmood al-Zarooni has launched an appeal over the severity of his penalty for his part in the Godolphin drug scandal. The trainer was given an eight-year ban after accepting responsibility for positive tests at his Newmarket yard. MORE

Rashid helps tip Ballance for Yorks

Gary Ballance and Adil Rashid both hit centuries as Yorkshire enjoyed the better of the opening day against Somerset at Headingley yesterday. Ballance made 107 while Rashid remains unbeaten on 120 as the hosts closed on 332-5. MORE

Robshaw tour place under threat

Chris Robshaw's place in the England squad could be in doubt, with Stuart Lancaster thinking of omitting the captain from the squad for next month's trip to Argentina. A number of uncapped players are expected to be promoted. MORE

Lions apologise for offensive tweets

The British and Irish Lions have apologised for any offence caused by "recent and inappropriate tweets" on their Twitter account. Two tweets have been removed, including one featuring a picture of an injured animal. The Lions tour Australia this summer.

Wiggins slips as Italy lead the way

Sir Bradley Wiggins fell back to fifth in the Giro d'Italia after yesterday's fourth stage. Enrico Battaglin led an all-Italian front three for the stage, with compatriot Luca Paolini remaining the overall leader. MORE
