Nadal claims 10th Grand Slam title

Rafael Nadal yesterday won a record-equalling sixth French Open title after beating Roger Federer 7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 in the final. Nadal has only ever lost once at Roland Garros and remains World No 1 with the victory. It was his 10th Grand Slam win. MORE

Chelsea begin their pursuit of Hiddink

Chelsea will begin talks with the Turkish Football Federation today about releasing manager Guus Hiddink from his contract, so that the Dutchman can rejoin the Premier League side as manager. The Turks want £4m in return for letting Hiddink leave. MORE

Astonishing Farah breaks record

Mo Farah yesterday set a new British and European 10,000m record at the Diamond League meeting in Oregon. The 28-year-old’s winning time of 26 minutes, 46.7 seconds was six seconds better than Mohammed Mourhit’s 11-year European record.

Capello baffled by tired England performance

After a lethargic start to Saturday’s 2-2 draw in the Euro 2012 qualifier with Switzerland, in which England went 2-0 down after 35 minutes, Fabio Capello has said he has no idea how to cure the summer fatigue. “I don’t know. You know the medicine?” he asked when approached in a corridor after the game. The players even had a 12-day break between the end of the domestic season and the qualifier. “We have got quality,” the Italian said. “But the problem is the energy.” His captain, John Terry insisted tiredness was the not the issue. “We’ve had 50, 60 games this year, so another game’s not going to make any difference at all.” Meanwhile, contrary to suggestions yesterday, striker Peter Crouch has not retired from international football. Nasri hints at exit to Man United
