No medal success for Greene in 400m hurdles

The 400m hurdler Dai Greene failed to secure a medal in the final last night,

finishing in fourth place. Felix Sanchez, the 34-year-old from the Dominican Republic, took gold eight years after winning the title in 2004, with a time of 47.63 seconds.

"I gave it everything I had tonight," said Greene, above, who is the athletics captain for Great Britain at the Games. "There was a better structure to my race [than in the semi-final] but I was just a bit too tired at the end there and narrowly missed out."

Speaking on the injuries that disrupted his training over the winter, Greene said: "It certainly affected my build-up – it meant I couldn't start until halfway through January instead of October time, but I can't argue too much. I had a personal best a few weeks ago." MORE

King Kenny reigns at the Velodrome

Jason Kenny won Great Britain's sixth gold medal in cycling at this Games, and the third in his career, after he defeated the French world champion, Grégory Baugé, in a stunning victory in the men's individual sprint final at the Velodrome. MORE

Showjumpers' first gold in 60 years

Great Britain won a first Olympic showjumping gold medal since 1952 after beating the Netherlands in a jump-off. The countries were level on eight penalty points after the team event. Nick Skelton, Ben Maher and Peter Charles went clear to win gold. MORE

Tweddle bows out with bronze medal

Gymnast Beth Tweddle finally claimed an Olympic medal, taking bronze in the uneven bars yesterday. The popular 27-year-old, who retires after the Games, scored 15.916 points to finish behind Russian Aliya Mustafina and He Kexin of China.

Adams through, but other two out

Mixed fortunes for Britain's three women boxers yesterday: flyweight Nicola Adams made it through to the semi-finals and is guaranteed at least a bronze, but lightweight Natasha Jonas and middleweight Savannah Marshall both lost and are out.

Pendleton primed to duel with rival

Tonight's women's cycling sprint final could pit two long-term rivals against each other. Great Britain's Victoria Pendleton may face Australian Anna Meares in what would be the latest instalment of a bitter six-year feud.

Laudrup eager to sort Allen future

The Swansea City manager, Michael Laudrup, is to hold talks with midfielder Joe Allen as rumours persist of a possible transfer to Liverpool. "We will have to see what he wants," Laudrup said. "Otherwise rumours will go on until August."

Hodgson inspires Wolves to victory

Honours even at Headingley

The second Test between England and South Africa ended in an entertaining draw at Headingley. The tourists declared their second innings on 258-9, setting England 253 from 39 overs. The hosts ended on 130-4 as the sides settled for a draw.
